finding your strength

A year ago, I was in the worst shape of my life, physically and mentally. I hated myself and my life. I spent all my time alone on the couch, eating junk food and feeling sorry for myself, and believing I could change anything. I looked at joining OTF, but when I saw the pictures online, everyone looked so in shape and I thought ‘I can’t do that I don’t fit in.’ April 3rd, 2017, I got up off the couch and went to my first class and it killed me -- 50 splat points, 39 minutes in the red zone and boy did I hurt the next day. I went to my second-class sore, still tired and thinking this wasn’t for me. The coaches encouraged me, and the other members were very supportive.

"I completed my second class and I was hooked."

I was 240lbs when I started. OTF has shown me that I am stronger than I ever thought. I have learned to believe in myself and that I can do anything. I have never run more than the bases in baseball or on the football field. Last year in June, I ran my first 5k race and ended up running 2 more before the year was over. I have another 5k race this month, followed by an 8k! I signed up for my first 10k race in May and another in June. I have now been talked into doing a half marathon in November, a week after my 49th birthday.

I could not have done any of this without OTF! I am proof OTF works, it’s far from easy and you need to dig deep, but anyone can do it. I found a family at Seton and the way members support and encourage other members is incredible. OTF saved my life, not just physically but mentally. I can finally say for the first time in my life, I love myself and don’t need anyone or anything to make me happy. I am happy with who I am now and what I have become. I look forward to what’s to come in my life and can now look back and smile about the good things in the past. Thank you OTF, you really did save my life.
